This is a stunning winter scene from the famous Tivoli is downtown Copenhagen painted in oil on canvas in 1972 by Danish artist Kai Christensen born 1918 in Copenhagen.
He has captured the winter colors of Scandinavia perfectly with the muted blue gray mauve tones that we in the north are surrounded by and take inspiration from in much of our interior decorating.
This painting is in great vintage condition and ready to hang. There is a small sticker on the back with a short bio of the artist and a sticker from an auction house from a previous sale.
The bio is in Swedish as Kai later moved to Sweden and had his art career primarily here. It translates as:
Kai Christensen
Born the 14th of June 1918 in Copenhagen
Trained by the artists Bertil Berntson and Olle Wallengren and later by Monsieur PARBID i Quarter Rue Convention de Paris
Has had art shows in Paris, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö among others
It is signed and comes in a grey Scandinavian wood frame with gold trim. My eye always goes to the figure in the rust hat. This painting will definitely bring the Scandinavian heart to your space.
